Operating revenues 9,711 8,657
Operating profit (EBITA) 1,007 477
Operating margin (EBITA) (%) 10 6

In 2010 Media Houses Scandinavia showed positive trends in online and print advertising sales but an underlying decline in circulation revenues. The underlying growth in operating revenues was 2 per cent.

Reported revenues increased by 13 per cent due to the positive effect of the consolidation of Media Norge in the third quarter of 2009 and a stronger Swedish krona against the Norwegian krone. The improvement is due to the group’s profitability program, lower paper prices and increased advertising revenues.

This business area includes the media houses Media Norge, VG, Schibsted Sverige and the Group's publishing operations.

  • MEDIA NORGE

All four of the media houses under Media Norge, that is Aftenposten, Bergens Tidende, Stavanger Aftenblad and Fædrelandsvennen, showed positive operating profits in 2010 due to better advertising trends, good cost control and low paper prices.

These media houses had an operating margin (EBITA) of 8 per cent (3%). Total operating revenues amounted to NOK 4,472 million (NOK 3,189 million). The online advertising, weekend magazines and recruitment advertising showed particularly good growths in revenue compared to 2009.

Finn.no is organizationally part of Media Norge, but it is reported as part of the Online classifieds operating segment.

  • VG

The changes that are taking place in the media market are clearly noticeable in the VG media house, where single-copy sales are declining at the same time as the use of digital media is on the rise. Circulation volumes for the VG print newspaper (weekday edition) fell by 11 per cent during the year as a whole, but the newspaper continues to be Norway’s best-selling single-copy newspaper. Vg.no maintains its position as Norway’s definitely biggest online news site, and there has been a strong growth in traffic for VG Mobil.

The media house had an operating margin (EBITA) in 2010 of 17 per cent (16%). Operating revenues amounted to NOK 1,909 million (NOK 1,961 million).
