In recent years Schibsted Forlag has been systematically transforming its profile from a publisher of annuals and hobby books to a major publisher of translated fiction, non-fiction and children’s and adolescent fiction.

Established by its founder Christian Schibsted in 1839, Schibsted Forlag represents the origins of the Schibsted Media Group. Today the company is Norway's fourth-largest predominantly book-oriented publishing house.

Schibsted Forlag is also a leading distributor of entertainment and series books through the grocery retail chains, and now holds approximately 30 per cent of this market in Norway. Both the number of new Norwegian novel series and the publishing house's market share increased in 2010. Some of the novel series were also released in Swedish.

Schibsted Forlag is the leading Norwegian distributor of foreign literature in the original language and also publishes special magazines and cartoon series.

The book is the paper-based medium which so far has been least affected by trends in digital media. When Norwegian-language e-books are introduced, Schibsted Forlag is ready to launch titles in that format.

  • Facts about Schibsted Forlag (Content is updated)

Schibsted Forlag AS publishing house is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Schibsted ASA, and is one of the leading book publishers in Norway. An uninterrupted line can be traced back to the publishing house that was founded by Chr. Schibsted in Christiania (now Oslo) in 1839 and was the forerunner to Aftenposten newspaper established in 1860.

Schibsted Forlag is therefore the original company out of which the Schibsted group originated.

Today the activities of the publishing house span fiction, non-fiction, annuals, children’s literature, travel guides, language courses and light fiction series. Schibsted Forlag is Norway’s leading importer of foreign books for sale in Norwegian bookstores. Its sister publishing house in Sweden is Schibsted Förlag AB.

In addition to the book-oriented activities, Schibsted Forlag also publishes some of Norway’s leading food and interior magazines as well as several popular cartoon series.

The company is part of Schibsted Norge.
