Svenska Dagbladet

  • Svenska Dagbladet was named Newspaper of the Year 2010 by the Swedish newspaper publishing association.
  • It was also awarded the Editorial Staff of the Year award. Awarded the Schibsted Journalism Award, the Guldspaden award for investigative journalism and nominated for the top journalism award. Gold medal winner in the International Infographics Awards and acclaimed the Sales Division of the Year in the Schibsted Sales Awards. 
  • All-time best profit, with strong growth in the advertising market.
  • Strong growth for SvD.se in terms of traffic and advertising revenues. Exceeded the one million readership mark.

Svenska Dagbladet is a subscription-based, national newspaper with a particularly strong position in the Stockholm region.

Svenska Dagbladet is undergoing continuous improvement, something which resulted in the Swedish newspaper publishing association’s decision to award both the newspaper and the company the prestigious Newspaper of the Year award. According to the jury, this was a media house where improvements never stop.

Advertising revenues for the print newspaper were SEK 518 million (11%)

Circulation revenues were SEK 502 million, an increase by 4% due to price increases. Circulation for the newspaper (weekdays) was 192,100 (– 2 %).

PRODUCT CHANGES

  • Reorganization of editorial activities. Revitalized and more in-depth journalism, which was given a boost in quality in connection with improved production planning.
  • First in the Stockholm market with a new version of the newspaper in iPad format.

 MEASURES IMPLEMENTED

  • A carefully planned and successful price strategy resulted in higher circulation revenues.
  • Successful projects with continuous improvements in both the advertising and the editorial divisions.
  • A new customer strategy involving vouchers implemented to retain loyal customers.
  • Extensive reorganization of production routines, now focused on planned journalistic and production activities during the daytime.

FIRST QUARTER 2011

  • Launch of the new SvD.se online news website.
  • Continued to build on and improve the SvDNäringsliv business newspaper.

AMBITIONS

  • Continue to shape new journalism in interaction with the readers, through products in print, online, internet, mobile, iPad and other platforms.
  • Develop managerial and employee competence.
  • Increase traffic and page views on the new SvD.se and continue to develop new digital products that increase profitability.

    Svenska Dagbladet (SvD), founded in 1884, is a national subscription newspaper with head offices in Stockholm.

    In 2000 SvD made the transition from broadsheet to tabloid format. SvD combines the classic credibility of a quality newspaper with a contemporary look and presentation. The newspaper was voted the Newspaper of the Year in Sweden in 2005 and 2010. Its circulation figures have risen dramatically in recent years.

    SvD is a daily publication which focuses on in-depth coverage in its weekend editions in the form of supplements and magazines. In collaboration with Schibsted, the food website Tasteline publishes a theme supplement on food topics four times a year.
