It’s easy to get started – find a plugin on GitHub and clone it to ~/Library/Application Support/Developer/Shared/Xcode/Plug-ins. If it’s your first time you’ll need to create the Plug-ins folder first though. Open terminal and enter:
mkdir -p ~/Library/Application\ Support/Developer/Shared/Xcode/Plug-ins;
There’s a decent list of plugins at maniacDev
One plugin to rule them all
Even though it’s easy to download and install plugins yourself, there is an even better way: Enter the Alcatraz package manager
Just click on the ones you want and restart Xcode and you’re done! Install this gem by entering the following line in Terminal (but remember to create the plugins folder first):
curl -L http://git.io/lOQWeA | tar xvz -C ~/Library/Application\ Support/Developer/Shared/Xcode/Plug-ins
(Alcatraz requires Xcode Command Line Tools, which can be installed in Xcode via Preferences > Downloads)
Restart Xcode and have a look in the Window menu:
What are your favorite plugins? Please share in the comments.
Happy Xcode hacking!
