Aftonbladets managing director Mr. Gunnar Strømblad will in medio November 1999 replace Mr. Kåre Gustafsson. Mr. Gustafsson is appointed as special advisor. Mr. Strømblad has been managing director of Aftonbladet since 1992. He his the chairman of the Board in TT and several other Schibsted companies.
The process of finding a new editor in chief for the newspaper is ongoing, and a new editor should be found within september 2000 when the incumbent editor Mr. Svegfors contract expires.
The Board of Directors has also endorsed an effort to strengthen the business journalism field to cover areas like finance, economic politics, labour market and private economy . The ambition is to launch a new business magazine in the newspaper and disribute this in cooperation with regional papers.
Svenska Dagbladet (SvD) had in 1998 a daily circulation of 190,000. 96% of this is to subscribers and 114,000 within the Stockholm region.
Schibsted owns 74% of SvD.
