The Schibsted consolidated accounts for the period January 1 to March 31 were approved at the Schibsted Board Meeting May 7, 1998. The Group`s revenues for the first three months of 1998 were NOK 1,505 million, an increase of 19.7 % or NOK 248 million compared to the same period in 1997. The operating profit was NOK 170.5 million compared to NOK 163.1 million in 1997, an increase of 4.5%. The result is influenced by higher advertising revenues from the Norwegian newspapers, improved results in the TV/Film business area, the expansion of the Internet activities to Sweden and Denmark, provisions for early retirement in connection with the new printing plant, and gain from sale of real estate. Net financial items were NOK 5.4 million compared to NOK 3.3 million in 1997. Pre-tax profit was NOK 173.6 million compared to NOK 166.0 million in 1997, an increase of 4.6 %.
