Nikita Roy - how AI affects trust and innovation in journalism
Nikita Roy is a data scientist, journalist, media entrepreneur, AI expert, and host of the acclaimed podcast Newsroom Robots. She works at the intersection of journalism and artificial intelligence. She is particularly known for her work helping news organisations understand, adopt, and implement AI in a responsible and productive way. Nikita will share key constraints with AI, a range of concrete opportunities, practical models and how this connects with trust and innovation.
Gard Steiro – journalism in the Age of AI
Nikita Roy's keynote presentation will be followed by a discussion about her key conclusions and how Schibsted approaches AI. Gard Steiro is the Editor-in-Chief and CEO of VG, and a member of Schibsted's management team. He has extensive experience as an editor and media leader in Schibsted, including serving as the editor-in-chief of Bergens Tidende.
War correspondents – on journalism’s front line
When AI can distort reality at the push of a button and disinformation spreads faster than ever, foreign correspondents remain one of the most crucial sources of reliable information: people on the ground, reporting with their own eyes and ears. In an in-depth conversation with Sami Abu Salem, Johan Mathias Sommarström and Terese Cristiansson we gain insight into the challenges they face today – and how trust in journalism is being put to the test in environments where every detail must be verified. Sami Abu Salem is a palestinian journalist who has been working from Gaza for VG for many years and who reported throughout the war. He recently was awarded with the the Ossietzky Prize by PEN Norway.
War correspondents – on journalism’s front line
Jona Källgren is a Swedish foreign correspondent for TV4, based in Berlin, with long experience in international reporting. He has previously worked for the Associated Press. Jona brings clarity and context to complex events across Europe and beyond. Through factual, on-the-ground journalism, he helps audiences navigate contested narratives in an increasingly fragmented information landscape.
War correspondents – on journalism’s front line
Astrid Billengren is News Editor at Aftonbladet, where she works closely with correspondents and reporters in the field. She helps build trust in journalism by creating safety and clarity for reporters working under intense pressure. Her work centres on verification, ethical judgement and editorial support when facts are contested and the stakes are high. Astrid has previously worked at TV4.
Jelena Valentić - media in an authoritarian climate
Croatia is formally a functioning parliamentary democracy. Free elections are held regularly, and civil and political rights are largely respected. At the same time, corruption is widespread, minorities face discrimination, and there are signs of growing authoritarian and anti-democratic tendencies. In this landscape Jelena Pavić Valentić is operating as Editor-in-Chief of the digital news platform Telegram.hr. She leads a newsroom with a strong focus on investigative journalism, political analysis, and independent reporting in a media landscape marked by political pressure and limited conditions for press freedom. Telegram.hr is supported by the Tinus Trust through financial contributions.
Case presentation in plenary
Knutby - A Verdict Under Question – Aftonbladet
For nearly 20 years, the Knutby case was considered closed. But when Aftonbladet’s 200 Seconds began reviewing the preliminary investigation, a crucial detail emerged – quite literally, from the discard pile. The result was an investigation that shakes the verdict to its core and raises the decisive question: Who really killed Alexandra Fossmo? Presenters: Robert Aschberg, Linda C Molin, Katrina Norrgrann
AR drones in the news studio – MTV
Cutting-edge AR technology is transforming the way MTV brings complex technology stories to life. When they brought multiple types of military drones directly into the news studio they set a new standard. The goal was to give viewers a clear, intuitive understanding of how a modern warfare really works – not through abstract graphics, not through classical news stories, but through an immersive AR-visualisation integrated seamlessly into live broadcasting. Presenters: Johannes Kantelinen, Mirja Kivimäki, Tomi Paijo
Tore Tang – Stavanger Aftenblad
Handball legend Camilla Herrem is known for singing "Tore Tang" at the national team's gold celebration. When Herrem left the national team, several media outlets reported that she had sung "Tore Tang" for the last time. But Stavanger Aftenblad created a ”Tore Tang universe” with stories connected to the song – and a memorable performance at a huge festival, Utopia. But during the project, Camilla was diagnosed with cancer. Her openness touched everyone, and gave Tore Tang a whole new meaning. Presenters: Id Skrivarhaug og Kjetil Flygnid
Soraya Lavasani, daytime host
Soraya Lavasani has worked as a news anchor and presenter at TV4 since 2008. She is one of the most recognised faces in Swedish news and a regular host of Nyhetsmorgon. Over the years, she has led a wide range of productions across TV4 Media. She has a strong editorial background, with experience as a reporter, video journalist, and news editor in several regional newsrooms. She also co-hosted the “Welcome to Schibsted”-event last year, with Jaakko Loikkanen in MTV.
