The awards were presented during the Power of Journalism event, held at Nalen in Stockholm. Colleagues from across Schibsted and some external guests attended the daytime conference, which featured external speakers and internal case presentations. The conference was followed by an awards celebration where the tribute to journalism continued.
For the first time, the new Schibsted family memebers TV4 and MTV, also participated. This meant the jury had an even more substantial task in selecting winners from a total of 29 nominees across the three categories: “Best Innovative Entry,” “Best Storytelling,” and “Best Scoop.” Three finalists in each category were announced during the day.
At the conference, journalist and AI expert Nikita Roy spoke about the major paradigm shift that AI represents for journalism. She emphasized the importance of media companies daring to rethink from the ground up and learning from tech companies when it comes to understanding user behavior and needs. She posed the following question:
“What would you build if you knew nothing about newsrooms – only that people need trusted, verified information?”
Following Nikita’s presentation, VG’s Editor-in-Chief Gard Steiro joined the stage. He largely agreed with her perspective, but concluded by saying that if anyone can succeed in taking the next step in the industry, it is us at Schibsted.
We also highlighted the importance of being present in the world as it unfolds – especially in times of conflict. Being there with our own journalists on the ground matters.
Throughout the day, our media houses shared inspiring and insightful case presentations – showcasing the creativity, courage and innovation that drive our journalism forward.
Here are all the finalists and winners of the Power of Journalism Award, along with the jury’s statements:
