Culture & career development

Finding the right balance

We know that healthy, happy people do the best work. That’s why we’re constantly thinking about work-life balance and how to offer a modern, flexible and healthy way of working. Inspired by our Scandinavian roots, most of our locations offer flexible work days as well as generous paid vacation and parental leave plans. In the office, we believe in teamwork and an open culture that’s both inclusive and fun. We celebrate our wins, big and small, regardless of whether it’s ordering a bunch of pizzas or throwing a themed terrace party. When we fail we do the same thing. Failing means learning, after all.

Healthy means happy

All Schibsted employees have access to great healthcare choices. With Schibsted Life, we’ve taken an even bigger step towards better physical and mental health for our Schibsted Media colleagues. Within Schibsted Life we’re offering free group classes, inspiring seminars and guided meditation sessions. It’s a great way of getting away from your desk to live a healthier life and meet colleagues from all parts of the business. Weather permitting, we even do yoga on our beautiful Stockholm rooftop terrace!

Our success depends on diversity

We’re committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive. It’s not just the right thing to do, it’s actually better for business too. Across 22 countries, our success depends on employees from a wide array of cultures and backgrounds contributing their ideas and perspectives to provide our users and customers with the best possible solutions. Research has proven that diverse and inclusive workforces have higher productivity, retention and commitment. They also collaborate better – leading to more innovation.

To increase diversity, we’ve also made a strategic decision to support gender balance. Ensuring we create a level playing field for both women and men, we’ve launched a number of initiatives including unconscious bias and code of conduct trainings, a review of our external and internal recruitment policies, succession planning, and female networks and development programs.

At the top level our board is composed of 40 percent women, as required by the Norwegian Limited Liabilities Companies Act. Schibsted targets a 60:40 gender ratio in all leadership roles by 2020. We will have unconscious bias training, external and internal recruitment policies and succession planning benefitting gender equality. The CEO is responsible for driving the changes that will ensure an improved gender equality at Schibsted.Schibsted has zero tolerance for harassment of any kind, as clearly stated in our Code of Conduct and in our Discrimination, bullying and harassment policy. This includes all forms of verbal, digital or physical harassment. To ensure a trustful environment where both women and men feel safe at work, Schibsted has launched a number of countermeasures such as unconscious bias training, code of conduct training and setting clear goals on improving gender equality for both the divisions and the group functions.

Compensation and benefits

Your greatest benefit is working with all our fantastic colleagues. But beyond that we combine a global and a local approach to pay and benefits. Globally we run various bonus schemes, stock option and stock savings schemes and we are dedicated to investing in the health and well being of our employees. Locally we strive to offer market competitive compensation combined with locally driven benefits that are meaningful and important in each local market.

Lifelong learning

Learning and development on the job are a win-win for everyone involved. It is a mutual interest and investment for Employees/Managers and the Organization. Within our own internal learning and development platform – Learning Lab, we will give you the opportunity to develop, and our wish is that you reach your full potential in your chosen or future role in Schibsted. Learning Lab offers several programs to ensure that in Schibsted you will keep on growing.  We have a trainee program for young talent, management programs for both new and experienced managers, classes within project management, tech trainings and much more. We offer in-house language classes for employees looking to brush up on their language skills. We also hold regular Schibsted Talks, Learnings Labs and Tech Talks to learn from and inspire each other.
