Raoul Grünthal appointed new Chair of the Tinius Trust

Raoul Grünthal has been appointed new Chair of the Tinius Trust from 17 June 2026. He succeeds Ole Jacob Sunde, who is stepping down after many years as Chair of the Board.

Raoul Grünthal succeeds Ole Jacob Sunde as Chair of the Tinius Trust.

The Tinius Trust is Schibsted’s long-term owner and has a mandate to safeguard free and independent media while contributing to long-term and stable conditions for journalism and media operations in the Nordic region.

In connection with the Annual General Meeting on 17 June, Ole Jacob Sunde will step down from the board and be succeeded by Raoul Grünthal.

Extensive experience

Raoul Grünthal has extensive experience from senior roles in the media industry, including at Schibsted. He is currently Chair of the Board of the Danish media group JP/Politikens Hus, a role he will leave in connection with the company’s annual general meeting in spring 2027.

“Well-managed media ownership is more important now than ever before. That gives me strong motivation to take on this important role and to work for the important purpose represented by the Tinius Trust. Free and independent journalism, freedom of expression, and democracy are values that must be upheld and defended in our time,” says Raoul Grünthal in a press release.

“We have had good discussions within the board and are fully confident that Raoul is the right person to take over as Chair. I know Raoul from my time as Chair of Schibsted. He has great respect for editorial work and sound judgement in strategic decisions. He led Schibsted’s transition to digital platforms and understands that our media businesses are now facing a new technological transformation that requires long-term thinking. That aligns well with the Trust’s mission to safeguard free and independent journalism while also ensuring financial sustainability,” says Ole Jacob Sunde.

A defining moment

The Nordic media industry is at a defining moment, with technological developments and global platforms rapidly changing the conditions for journalism. At the same time, there is a strong Nordic tradition of free and independent media to build on.

“Raoul Grünthal knows both Schibsted and the Nordic media industry extremely well after many years in senior leadership roles. He has a strong understanding of both the mission of journalism and the changes the media industry is currently going through. That provides continuity and long-term perspective at a time characterised by major change. I look forward to continuing the collaboration with the Tinius Trust and with Raoul as its new Chair,” says Siv Juvik Tveitnes, CEO of Schibsted.

At the same time, there will also be a change among the members of the board of the Tinius Trust. Adele Matheson Mestad, former Director of the Norwegian National Human Rights Institution and now partner at the law firm BAHR, has been elected to the Board.

She succeeds Gunilla Asker, business executive and professional board member with extensive experience from the media, retail and technology sectors.
