For the first time, audiences can now follow Aftonbladet’s news coverage as live radio – in the car, at work and on the go.
“This is a historic day. Eight months ago, we submitted our application to launch Sweden’s first commercial news radio station. Today, it is finally on air. Radio Aftonbladet will make it easy to keep up with the news throughout the day, with fast journalism, strong personalities and a tone that feels warm and close to the audience,” says Lotta Folcker, Publisher at Aftonbladet.
Radio Aftonbladet is built around live journalism: when something happens, the station will be there, with updates, explanations and reactions in real time. The station combines news, sport, entertainment and music and is aimed at a broad audience aged 25–55, with a core target group of 30–49-year-olds. The promise to listeners is simple: they should always be up to date – and it should never be boring.
As of today, Radio Aftonbladet is an integrated part of Aftonbladet’s journalistic operation. The radio team works side by side with the newsroom and breaking news desk, which monitor developments around the clock. This close collaboration is what makes live journalism possible. During major news events, coverage can be reinforced by Schibsted’s combined editorial resources.
“Going live with the whole team in place and all of Aftonbladet behind us feels fantastic. We have built an editorial team with some of the country’s most experienced radio and news journalists, and now we finally get to meet our listeners. This is Aftonbladet in audio – in its content, its pace and its tone,” says Caroline Kernen, Head of Radio and Podcasts at Aftonbladet.
Radio Aftonbladet also gives audio an even bigger role in Schibsted’s overall media offering, alongside text and video.
“With Radio Aftonbladet, we are strengthening our offering and can reach audiences throughout the media day – through text, video and audio. For our advertisers, this means even more opportunities to create relevance and impact across some of the Nordic region’s strongest media environments,” says Joakim Flodin, CEO of Schibsted Marketing Services Sweden.
